Top Tips for a Greener Stay

Wherever we go & whatever we do, we have an impact.

Listed below are some top tips on how to be green while enjoying our beautiful City.

  • Green tourism - Look out for accommodation providers who are members off the Green Tourism, COast or a Conservation scheme. These accommodation providers have made a commitment to promoting and using local products, encouraging car-free transport, conserving energy and recycling where possible.
  • Plastic bags - Please remember reuse plastic bags or alternatively purchase one of the many different eco friendly bags from shopping outlets around the City.
  • Leave your car at home - Truro is a compact City that's ideal for exploring on foot. And with excellent bus and rail links - there's no real need to bring your car at all. The city is ideal for getting out and about for exploring the rest of Cornwall.
  • Eat local - When eating out, choose dishes which make use of fresh, seasonal Cornish produce. Not only will you enjoy the tastiest food the county has to offer but you'll also be making an essential contribution to the sustainability of the countryside by supporting local farmers and small businesses, which in turn helps to reduce food miles and therefore energy consumption and pollution.
  • Buy local - Whether shopping for food or souvenirs, make efforts to purchase locally-produced goods: the impact on the environment is much less than buying products which have been transported halfway around the world. Take time to explore the City’s smaller independent shops, or why not check out Truro’s weekly farmers' market  every Wednesday and Saturday on Lemon Quay. Lemon Street Market is our fair trade market
  • Go local - Truro’s central location makes it perfect for exploring the surrounding area catch a bus to one of the National Trust Gardens or take a boat trip down the river. Alternatively take a stroll round one of our award winning City Gardens.
  • Take a Bus, train or boat - There are three main bus stops in the City, Victoria Square & Boscawen Street for Western Greyhound services and Truro Bus station for National Express & First bus services.  Don’t forget the Park for Truro Scheme situated just off the A30 helping to reduce congestion in the City. Staff in the Tourist Information are happy to advice on routes & timetables for your journey.
  • Switch off & chill out - Most of us are now pretty switched on to when it comes to switching off. Don’t forget to turn off your lights & don’t leave your television on standby, also take part in towel saving schemes where possible.
  • Recycle, Recycle, Recycle - Cornwall has set days for recycling if you’re staying in self catering accommodation find out what day is or alternatively most supermarkets have recycle points for newspapers, cans & plastic.
