Families & Kids

Truro has plenty to offer in the way of attractions in the city centre and in the surrounding area.

From the end of July to the beginning of September daily activities take place at the Hendra play area behind Victoria Gardens, from Bouncy Castles to Punch & Judy provided by Truro City Council.  For older children there is the Hendra Skate Park opened in 2009. It was designed with help from two local talented professional skateboarders, Jody & Leo Smith.

Boscawen Park is beside the river in Truro, here you will find a large open space with Tennis courts, cricket and football pitches as well as a children’s play area. Opposite the park is the duck pond popular with local children.

Truro's Royal Cornwall Museum has events for families throughout the year, explorer back packs are available at a small charge to help explore the museum.  Entrance is free for children under 18 and £5 per adult for annual pass, for more information and opening time please go to www.royalcornwallmuseum.org.uk

Truro also has a four screen cinema right in the city centre and bowling alley which open all day.  Please see the links below.

Truro is home to the largest theatre in Cornwall, the Hall for Cornwall, it offers a mix of entertainment and it often has children / family shows  during school holidays. Check out their website before you arrive, www.hallforcornwall.co.uk  for information and tickets.

Further afield we have the Mineral Tramways coast to coast Sustrans track which runs from Portreath on the North Coast to Devoran on the South Coast. Popular with locals and visitors, Bikes can be hired on the trail itself from either Bissoe Bike Hire or Elm Farm Cycle centre just outside Portreath.

And lastly how could we forget Cornwall’s beautiful beaches, did you know you are never further then 14 miles from a beach in Cornwall. Truro is perfectly situated for either the North coast, where the rugged back drop of the Atlantic is perfect for surfing or alternatively the gentle waters of the Falmouth beaches are only  a short stroll away from the town centre.  The Roseland is easily accessible by using the King Harry Ferry, the beaches of the Roseland are peaceful and quiet perfect for lazy family days.  For more information on time tables www.kingharryscornwall.co.uk/ferries
